Gilbreath & Smith, LLP
Located and deeply rooted in Corpus Christi, Texas, our firm’s history dates to 1954, when brothers Toufic and Alfred Nicolas formed Nicolas & Nicolas, committing themselves to providing quality legal representation to South Texas.
In 1968 Conrad (Pat) Morris joined the firm, which adopted the name Nicolas & Morris. Mr. Morris retired in 2001, after a distinguished legal career as a general civil attorney with special emphasis on litigation and family law. Mr. Morris’s reputation was made by his intelligence, his trial skill, his fierce loyalty to clients, and profound integrity.
John Barrow, son of former Justice of the Texas Supreme Court, Charles Barrow, was for 20 years a partner in the firm, and an accomplished Bankruptcy lawyer, before leaving in 1994 to serve as a Judge in Portland, Texas, while continuing his bankruptcy practice. During this time, the firm was known as Nicolas, Morris & Barrow.
The exemplary legal career of Toufic Nicolas, who retired in 2010, spanned 55 years, during which he used the law, his intelligence, an extraordinary reserve of common sense, and his equal command of English and Spanish, to meet the legal needs of thousands of South Texas clients.
In 1983 and 1985, Mark Gilbreath and Robert Morris joined the firm. In 1984, the firm undertook title company representation, and began focusing more on real estate law. Bradley Smith joined the firm in 1989. In 1997, the firm adopted the name Nicolas, Morris, Gilbreath & Smith.
When Robert Morris acquired Security Title in 2020, leaving the practice of law to continue to grow that business, which he had effectively operated since its inception in 1997, the firm changed its name to Gilbreath & Smith.
The firm has evolved over the last 50 years into one that continues to deliver quality legal representation but with an emphasis on real estate, business and wills and probate. By directing our attention to these specific areas, we are able to provide the client with superior, cost-effective representation.
